Bush of George

Here is another picture from our Holiday. This is from the Lake District and was the wood above where we had our sandwiches. On a more up to date note I have got very interested in remix projects at the moment. I was rummaging around on the Peter Gabriel web site and he has put up the tracks that form his song Shock the Monkey from the late 70's. There is a competiton to remix it as you see fit using the raw ingrediants that make up the original. If you go to the site there are quite a lot of different versions. My currently posted favourite is an Italian version of the song which is very clever, listen it it here. Matt at work has put in a lot of effort and done an excellent job on his version. When he puts it up I will get you all to go and vote for it! I am also slowly stumbling along with a version which hopefully will see the light of day. As is my want, I have already become distracted with a different remix project. This one is for an album called My Life in the Bush of Ghosts by Brian Eno and David Byrne. It is a bit scary as I can remember this album coming out and thinking it was totally amazing. It still is, and there are also lots of different peoples interpretations of two of the songs. My favourite from that site would have to be Bush of George... you have to go and have a listen. Maybe it won't mean as much if you havn't hear the original album but it is still priceless...

Thanks for mentioning BUSH OF GEORGE by MENTAL HEALTH. If you're interested, the dancier version BUSH OF GEORGE (WAR DANCE MIX) is available for free download from:

MENTAL HEALTH has similarly remixed Peter Gabriel's Shock The Monkey. It's called SHOCK AND AWE ME, & you can hear it at:

In comparison to BUSH OF GEORGE, SHOCK AND AWE ME is less witty & more emotional, thanks to Peter Gabriel's tremendous voice and some lively performances that were originally drowned under the 1980's mix. Predictably it has received mixed comments from listeners who appear to resent the shock of the new (apparently it's okay to remix a song into meaninglessness, but it's not okay to give it fresh meaning). See what you make of it.

Thanks again for the mention, and good luck with your remixing.

The SHOCK AND AWE ME link has been cropped in my previous comment, so here it is in two sections:
