The Telephone Box

I received a lovely postcard from north of Aberdeen from a small town where the film Local Hero was made. I was going to go up to see the Telephone Box that was the centre part of the film while I was there but work got in the way. The Telephone box has aparently been listed on the National Trust in Britan!!! Thanks Greg for the postcard!

ORT

Well I made mention of something called the ORT a while ago... I have given it it's own blog site so go an check out ORT.

Happy Anniversary

One year On! It is Chery & Pete's first wedding anniversary so it was a good excuse to drink some nice plonk... The bottle of Hermitage was courtesy of Uncle Roger and the Verve was from an airlines first class selection... (a complicated story is attached to that). Both very enjoyable!

Constance Evelyn WADE

We went to Fremantle Cemetry to-day to find Moondyne Joe's grave. We had been camping in Toodyay and visited the museum there and the boys became interested in Moondyne Joe a fairly benign Bushranger from 1890 or so. Anyway we didn't find his grave but we did find Bon Scott's and also the boys Great Grandmother, Connie's, grave. She never knew the boys and died only abut 6 months after I met Rose. The Cemetry is huge and quite facinating to walk through.

To Cool

Well we had a nice weekend as the ladz went to my parents for TWO NIGHTS!! so we went to the cinema to see To Cool; It was OK, had some amusing lines but I think Margret and David were rather generous with their rating... I do, however, want a Hummer with hubcaps that keep rotating even when the vehicle is stopped though... very Chic... ideal for Freo Saturday evening bog lapz...

The main reason for having the weekend child free was to go to Mel's birthday party. It was at a Indian place on Canning Hwy near where Declan played cricket. The food was fabuluous and lots of beer and wine and good company.

More Beer!! I have made a Dark Larger and it looks a lot better then the last one... another three week wait!

The proof is in the Beer

Well the beer finished it's 3 weeks of bottle age and has now been heavily sampled. The verdict is pretty good. Perhaps a bit light on strength of flavour but certianly very drinkable! So after picking the lads up from school yesterday off to the brewing supply shop for a Dark Larger... now i will certainly need to track down some crown seal stubbies... i wonder if Sarah still has some going spare?

Other great excitement... Declan won his backstroke race in the school swimming carnival!!! I think there were only two people more surprised that us and that was himself! I think i will hold that lasting image of him pointing a finger to the sky to tell us that he had won for ever! Certainly is amusing to see him shake of the non-competitive enviroment of the last few years... We had some celabration chocolate after tea.

At the Trots

Friday evening we headed off to the Trots with some friends we havn't seen for ages. It was a lovely evening for it, very hot and barmy. We bet on most of the races and actually came home ahead (which was a lot better that i expected) even if it was only about $8... Here are the boys watching the thundering hooves roar past on the way to the finishing post!

Normal Stuff

Was reading back over the last few blog postings and it seems that we only go out to shows! Wish it were true! I think that it is just this time of year. It dosen't seem to be like this the rest of the time. I suppose in the realm of normal stuff the boys both seem to be enjoying their new school. Ben more so than Declan. Declan has started learning the Cello and i think is more in love with the thought of playing the cello as opposed to the thought of learning to play the cello... Ben has changed Piano teachers which is a bit sad as Heidi is quite a link back to Beehive and a lot of our friends from Beehive go to her. Unfortunately since she is so busy we could not get a time outside of school and East Freo. are a bit more strict on other stuff during school hours. He still is enjoying it and still amuses us with his musicality. Both the boys are getting excited about the ORT slowly coming back to life... What is the ORT you may ask? well we will have to leave that for another time!

Kronos

Well it is almost a week but last Friday Rose and i toddled off to see Kronos Quartet at the Concert Hall. It was a present from my Mum for Christmas/Birthday. I havn't seen them before but i do have a few of their albums. They were pretty amazing. They can all play extremely well and they put toghter a very tight and well conceived package. We missed out on some of the multi-media aspects of the show as the projector crashed. It was however a quite exceptional show... They came out after the show and had a chat to interested persons. Robyn Johnson (an aquaitance of a number of friends) did the spiel. Some quite perceptive questions along with the "what is your favourite color?" ones...
After the show we went to the festival club or "Becks Verandah" and caught the end of a Scottish chick doing some quite impresive Celtic yodelling with a fairly high energy band. They had a nice noodle bar and we had a small libation and some very tasty nosh.
A good evening!
