Piano Converges with the Beach

As part of the Piano Convergence this piano has been left just below the tide mark on Bathers Beach in Fremantle. I took the ladz down there and a laptop and microphone. I sampled a couple of the still working keys to make a new composition! How derivative is that...

Art of Noise

Fremantle is currently hosting an exhibition of Artistic Noise making as part of the Totally Huge New Music Festival. The Festival has other components but part of it is in the Moores building in Freo and is a somewhat eclectic collection of artistic installations and things that make sound. Rose and I went on Sunday morning and I dragged a few of the chaps from work down at lunchtime. By far the most popular work was Quint de Loup by Nigel Helyer. It consists of various plastic objects that have a thermin in them (this is a musical device where the pitch is controlled be proximity to their antenna). The objects are patterned on aquatic animals and a very cleverly made.

This is a close up of one of the jelly fish type sculptures.

If you are in Freo up to the 23rd then go and have a look...

Sydney

Hmmm i notice that i seem to be down to one posting a month at the moment! We have been in Sydney for 15 days for the school holidays. The weather was lovely and we had a great time visiting lots of museums and galleries. We spent the last few days in the Blue Mountains where the gardens were just magnificent. I have quite a few photographs so i will try and post some of them over the next few days.
