Dialz

Took this picture in Taralgon while we were there at Christmas. The LaTrobe Valley produces about 70% of Victoria's power and we spend a facinating couple of hours seeing over Loy Yang power station. They have enough Cole there to last for 200 years at current consumption rates which is really pretty amazing! It will end up being a rather large hole in the ground by the time they are finished!

Larks Tongue in Aspic on the Beach

The boys have been doing surfing lessons again at the beach in Safety Bay. I went down on Tuesday while Rose was at work and watched them while listening to the classic Larks Tonge in Aspic. Very pleasant morning, certainly one that you would like on repeat...

Myer's Chrismas Window...

When we first arrived in Victoria we did spend a couple of hours in Melbourne and went to see the Myer Christmas window display. I am assured that this is a long standing icon of on the Melbourne social calendar. Personally I'm not so sure, we stood here for a good 45 minutes and I am not really sure that it was a wise investment in time and maybe there was somewhere we could have had a beer or a glass of wine...

Nibble, Nibble, Nibble

A week or so ago I noticed that the decking was a bit spongy... I had a nasty feeling that there was something happening and after some investigation we found that termites had been chomping away -- very sad -- I hadn't noticed that the piece of wood was Karri! Anyway it has all been replaced with toxic wood so the little varmits can choke on that instead!

It's a Big Bad World Out There!

This is my little niece Rebecca. She was born a week ago to my brother Pete and his wife Cheryl. She seems very placid and cute at the moment and she already has more hair than her Father! Ben couldn't get over how small her hands are. Seems an awfully long time ago that he was that size, well we never saw him quite that small as he was a pound or so heavier... Anyway congratulations Rebecca!

Off to See the Comet

Sorry about the lack of activity recently. I have a new, old computer and forgot all the passwords to things that want to remember them automatically. Anyway overcome all of that. We just went up to the War Memorial in Fremantle to see the Comet and so did a lot of other people! It was actually a lot darker than the picture really indicates. We did see the comet and it was rather close to the horizon and a bit washed out but the boys were fairly impressed and we had another opertunity to set up Declan's telescope and offered a number of people a look.

Happy New Year!

Well Happy New Year everybody out there! This is my 200th posting! How Sad! Back at work and the holiday rapidly receeds into the dim and distant past. Melbourne was heaps of fun and the boys really enjoyed it, especially wearing out a ride on mower and the snow. As part of the new year i have embarked upon a collection of tasks that were supposed to have happened last new year and will probably actually get done next new year... but that is not far off now!

Boxing Day Snow!

Well this was our Boxing Day outing to Mount BawBaw! Lots of excitement when the first roard was closed due to the bush fires, the second road had fallen trees that needed to be towed out of way and eventually we got there. They said it had been snowing and we expected a small patch of snow. No! we got really deep snow and spent about 20 mins running around in it making a snow man before it all got to cold and we went home. Ben was pretty amazed by it all and must have been awfully cold after rolling around in it. The novelty of snow had worn off for me a very long time ago but is was great to see the boys enjoying a new experience. Who would have thought that our Victorian Summer holiday would include Snow? Posted by Picasa
